Zachary Condon, a member of Boy Scout Troop 21, was awarded
the Eagle Scout rank at a recent Eagle Court of Honor.
Scoutmaster Duane Schoenhardt presented the Eagle badge and
served as master of ceremonies. Troop 21 is part of the National
Capital Area Council and is chartered by Peace United Methodist
Church in Fredericksburg.
Zachary started Scouting as a Tiger Cub in 1996. In 2001, he
achieved the Arrow of Light award, the highest award in Cub
Scouts. On his trail to Eagle, Zachary served in many leadership
positions within the troop, becoming a member of the Order of
the Arrow and earning 29 merit badges.
One of the Zachary's greatest personal achievements is the
completion of his Eagle service project in February. The project
was developed to benefit the Thurman Brisben Center in
Fredericksburg, which provides emergency shelter, food and
self-help programs to homeless families and individuals. Zach
coordinated and executed a food and personal-items drive for the
center and also built shelving units in two of the center's
storage closets. In addition to all the donations, more than
$1,100 was collected and donated directly to the center.
Zachary is in the 10th grade and is home-schooled. He attends
Spotswood Baptist Church and is an active member of the youth
group. After graduation from high school, he hopes to attend the
Air Force Academy in Colorado and become a pilot for the Air
Force.
